2. 12:36b-43 REASONS FOR JESUS' REJECTION

b. 12:37-38 ISAIAH PROPHESIED CONCERNING JESUS

c. 12:39-40 HE TESTIFIES OF THE SOVEREIGN BLINDING OF EYES

e. 12:42-43 DANGER OF LOVING THE PRAISE OF MEN

Nevertheless even of the rulers many believed unto him;

3. 12:44-50 THE LAST PUBLIC WARNING OF JESUS
a. 12:44 TO BELIEVE IN JESUS IS TO BELIEVE IN THE FATHER ALSO

And Jesus cried and said, Who believes unto me,

b. 12:45 And who beholds me beholds him that sent me.

c. 12:46 JESUS AS LIGHT - FREES FROM DARKNESS

I am come a light into the world,

that whoever believes unto me remain not in the darkness.
d. 12:47 JESUS' TRUE PURPOSE FOR COMING TO THE WORLD
kai eAN tis mou aKOUse ton 'reMAton [4487], kai me phuLAxe [5438], eGO ou KRIno [2919] auTON:
And if any hear my :sayings, and guard themnot, I do not judge him:
ou gar ELthon HIna KRIno ton KOSmon, all' HIna SOso [4982] ton KOSmon.
for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
e. 12:48 MAN JUDGED BY THE GOSPEL

Who rejects me, and receives not my :sayings,
Echei ton KRInon-ta auTON: ho LOgos hon eLAle-sa, eKEInos kriNEI auTON en te esCHAte heMEra.
has onethat judges him: the word that I spoke, the same shall judge him in the last day.
f. 12:49 JESUS - THE PERFECT SERVANT OF THE FATHER
HOti eGO ex e-mauTOU ouk eLAle-sa; all' ho PEMpsas me paTER,
Because I spoke not from myself; but the Father that sent me,
auTOS moi en-toLEN [1785] DEdo-KEN, ti EIpo, kai ti laLEso.
HE has given me commandment, what I should say, and what I shall speak.
g. 12:50 ETERNAL LIFE: THE RESULT OF THE COMMANDMENT OF GOD
kai OIda [1492] HOti he en-toLE auTOU zo-E [2222] aiOniOS [166] es-tin; ha oun eGO laLO,
And I know that his :commandment is life eternal; what thingstherefore I speak,
kaTHOS EIreKEN moi ho paTER, HOUtos laLO.
even as the Father has said to me, thus I speak.
NOTE: 12:36b-43 - This is a difficult passage for many. The reason for our Scriptural difficulties often boil down to: We come to the Bible with preconceived ideas! Our denominational background strongly influences us, plus other theological ideas we have picked up along the way. Early in my Christian life (1947), I read a book entitled: “Let God say what Hewants to say,” and “Let the Bible mean what itwants to mean!”
Ask a child what a verse in the Bible means, and though not always accurate of course, yet invariably he takes it for what it says. “Yes, but” - is often the adult “take” on passages like the one before us. But when we read Romans 11, we see how God “blinded” Jewish eyes that Gentiles might come into His Kingdom. Then when the number of the Gentiles is complete, God will turn back to the Jews and lift this Sovereign blindness from them. Is thiswhat Isaiah is prophesying? Do we have a problem with out Sovereign God, the Potter over us the clay, doing what Hewants with Hisclay? If we do - we will alwayshave trouble understanding HisBible.
Then note in 12:44-50 how Jesus clearly spells out that His first coming was primarily to be the Savior of the world! It was notprimarily to be the great Teacher, or the great Example, but the great Savior! His second coming will be as the great Judge at the BEma Judgment Seat for believers, and the Great White Throne for unbelievers. This did notfit with the preconceived ideas of the Jews of His day - so - they crucified Him, and thus fulfilled the very purpose for His first coming! Is thisthen to their credit? By nomeans!
